D.I.Y. Advice

Chelsea Flea Market

The markets are a great place to shop not only for some of the best antiques in the city but also for furnishings, decorative arts and materials for your next D.I.Y. project. If you’re a first time “” here are some tips to keep in mind when working on your next project.

1.) Start off small: On your first D.I.Y. project, don’t bite off more than you can chew. It’s great to be ambitious but it’s also important to be mindful of the project you’re taking on. So consider your skills and what you’re willing to learn, and start from there.

2.) Consider the space: For city dwellers space is always a challenge. Make sure that you have sufficient work space to tackle the project without completely turning your home upside down.

3.) Keep the end result in view: Before you get started, flesh out what you want the final project to look like. Whether it’s a photo of something you’re trying to replicate or a sketch you’ve drawn out, it’s important to have a visual to keep you on track. It may sound obvious but it’s not enough to fancy an idea in your mind. Establishing the visual makes the project real and purposed.

4.) Be creative: Look to others for tips and ideas but let your end result be a reflection of yourself and your personal taste. Not only will it make all of your hard work worth it but it will blend nicely with your home and style.
