HKFM Vendor Spotlight with Anthony & Janet of The Store with No Walls

Chelsea Flea Market

When you think of great vintage fashion, think of The Store with No Walls…literally. Anthony and Janet share their love for vintage fashion, what inspired their business and how they were able to take a part-time passion into a full time career.

What items do you sell at the market?

Vintage clothing—primarily women’s vintage clothing from the 1950-1980s But we specialize in a lot furs, dresses & hats. We also carry designer vintage clothing.

What do you love about the items that you sell?

It’s great when the customers see and appreciate the value of a fur or a dress. For example, a $15,000.00 mink coat that they get for a fraction of the cost, in impeccable condition; that gives me a thrill.

Also, my wife always says, by selling vintage you help create fashion. Since fashion is cyclable you’re helping to inspire future designs. The vintage items are so influential to future fashion.

How long have you been at the market?

We have been at Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market for 9 years. When the original outdoor market closed, it got a lot of media coverage and since we were already selling vintage fashion at other flea markets, we decided to come to New York and start selling at Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market.

What inspired you to get into the business of selling vintage clothes?

We started out selling modern and vintage clothing but Janet, being the ‘quick study’, recognized that the niche was towards vintage and so she transitioned to selling vintage fashion. She realized how vital it is to the fashion industry since it’s the inspiration for the new clothing.

Where do you find your vintage clothing?

We find vintage clothing at private sales, select estate sales and auctions in the New York/New Jersey area.  Janet has good eye for vintage fashion and a great reputation in the vintage fashion business so she gets private invitations to the sales.

What can shoppers expect to find at your booth?

We’ve recently decided to expand to cater to both Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market and Chelsea Flea Market.  At Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market we’ll have a tremendous coat sale. We have a huge selection of women’s and men’s coats at phenomenal prices ranging from $25.00 to $45.00. At Chelsea Flea Market Janet will be featuring high end women’s vintage fashion.
